A little something from each of us...

Good Morning!

We understand there is quite a bit of snow back home...bummer!  The question was asked if they ever have to cancel school for anything here...sounds like the monsoon season brings such heavy rains that the streets get flooded, then the children can't get there.  I asked how they know if school is canceled and they said if you can't walk down the street, then you know.

We had a wonderful day yesterday full of many adventures, the one I am choosing to share is that we went into another remote village for a church service last night.  We needed to park the bus on the edge of the village and walk in through the dark streets...oh, how we love Solomon and our other "body guards"...they bring us great comfort!  I had the opportunity to speak along with Terri.  Terri shared her story of her triumph over cancer and I was able to give some words about following your heart.  Several of us were asked to giving blessings on the people...it was a very humbling experience as the people were so grateful for our touch.

I briefly just want to say "thank you" to all who support this ministry...you are REALLY making a difference for so many and they ARE truly thankful for everything!

Namaste ~ Jenny

Hi, this is Emma,

We got some fabric to make an India outfit and yesterday we went and got measured for them.  We went into this small little house and then this old lady came out and measured us in every little part if or bodies,  It was really crazy, but I am looking forward to seeing what it looks like once it is done.  I got to pick out my birthday dress (Novau and Manjula got for me), I can't wait to see what it looks like!!!!!  Also, it was really interesting how we exchanged our money...two men came to Novahu's home with a brief case full of rupees and one at a time we had to go out on the porch to exchange our $$.

Hello this is Olivia
previously on "Olivia's" blog I tolded you about the Hats that some of the ladies from our church made for the kids at the school, well I am going to tell you about how HAPPY they were to get them!
We also had the candy neckless to give them too. At first they had no idea what to do with the candy necklaces and I bet they were thinking "Why are these people pointing at there mouth and screaming at me", but then once they tasted them they were so excited!  As for the hats ,they LOVED them! By the end of the day they were still wearing the Hats(it was in the 80's)
and we were all sweating like a sinner in church
well I have to go now see you nexts time

Hi this is Sophie!
My cousin "Sally" gave me a special pink backpack before we left.  Everyday I fill it with special treats to hand out to the orphans, we call this time "sweets with Sophie".  It makes me really happy to see their smiling faces when they get the treats!

Thanks for writing to me Morgan!  I really loved the movie Megamind and I can't wait for the flight home to watch it again!  I can't wait to play with you too!

I love and miss you all!
Sophia

Today we taught the kids how to make Friendship bracelets.  It was very confusing because they couldn't understand what we were saying.  I was so happy that Manjula's niece, Seri was able to translate for me.  Once they got the hang of it, they were excited to make them.  At one point I was holding four sets of stings while they worked on them.  It was good to spend that time with them!
I am really happy to be here!
Love, Jo

And now a word from Big Bob. I found out the age old question. Why when you talk to an Indian person do they bobble their head sometimes? Well today we painted a raindow on the wall using the childrens handprints. The only problem was they do not have latex paints. We needed to use terpantine to wash the hands in a small room with not much air serculation. The fumes were starting to get to use, and I was get very lightheaded. Hence the bobble which I noticed the Americans addopted.

And now a few more photos...

pumping water at the well.

Happy orphans with their new towels from their sponsors...

Our love to all of you back home...life is good!

  1. Hello!!

Technology amazes me, that you can be so far away and yet we can 'hear' your stories and see the pictures. John has also been posting pictures to facebook and with Teri's videos, we get to travel along with you!

Church was canceled tonight due to the snow and tomorrow we are in for some extreme cold! I'd take 80!!

    Have a great day!

  2. Love these pictures!I guess 80 would be cold enough for a hat if it is usually in the 100's there. The candy necklace story was funny. Are the guys with the briefcases like the bank there?

  3. What a great job you guys are doing writing about all your "adventures". I love reading about them. It sounds like you're very busy doing great things and we think it's wonderful!
I'll be anxious to see the dresses that are being made for you! Keep up the good work. You're missing 3+ feet of snow, shoveling, snow blowing and today...20 degrees below zero, but we're warming up! 16 by noon! Enjoy the warmth!!!

  4. Agreed with Jessica! I am so thankful that we get to share all of this with you! It makes it all seem so much more 'real' and not that we are on the oppsite ends of the world right now.
What an amazing thing you all are doing, I can't even begin to tell you how much these pictures and your words touch my heart! What an awesome experience for everyone involved!!
    Lots of love!

  7. Dink wants me to add...she's having problems on her end :)
It looks like your having an amazing adventure!! Love reading the blogs and seeing the pictures. You guys are awesome. Enjoy eating all the wonderful new foods, but rest assured we'll have pretzels and dip waiting when you get home. Meanwhile back on the home front, Mam is the visiting nurse in residence and after two days she has actually figured out how to back down the driveway in only three attempts when she takes the kids to school. We're very proud of her. Now I only have to convince her that we MUST go to Charlie's spelling bee today instead of going to Lambeau Field for the"High Five Challenge". She claims that she didn't come up here to just do laundry, dishes, and drive the kids around. Hope you have a great day with many more firsts. Love you lot! - Dink
